A Routine EEG is a standard diagnostic procedure that typically lasts 30 to 60 minutes and can be performed in a hospital, physician’s office, or the comfort of a patient’s home. It plays a key role in detecting epilepsy and other seizure disorders, as well as conditions such as brain tumors, strokes, and head injuries. Often the first step in the neurodiagnostic process, a Routine EEG provides physicians with essential insights to support accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.

An Ambulatory EEG (AEEG) is a safe, painless test performed in the comfort of a patient’s home, typically over 3–5 days. Like a Routine EEG, it records brain activity to assist in diagnosis and treatment—but over a longer period to capture more comprehensive data. AEEG is often recommended when more detailed information is needed beyond what a Routine EEG provides. 

Continuous EEG (cEEG), also known as Long-Term Monitoring (LTM), records brain activity over extended periods—ranging from hours to days or even weeks. It is commonly used in intensive care units (ICU, neuro ICU), inpatient settings, or at home in a format similar to AEEG. ADH provides real-time monitoring by experienced EEG staff, ensuring physicians are kept informed throughout the study and patients receive timely, high-quality care.

An Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU), also known as a Seizure Monitoring Unit (SMU), is a specialized hospital unit designed to evaluate, diagnose, and treat seizure disorders in patients of all ages. In a controlled setting, seizure medications may be safely reduced to capture seizure activity. Using continuous video EEG, physicians can analyze brain activity before, during, and after a seizure. This detailed monitoring helps guide personalized treatment plans, which may include medication adjustments, neurostimulation, dietary therapy, or surgical options.
